Pull studs by machine
Pull Studs for VMC Machines (BT40, BT30, BT50, SK40, CAT40)
A VMC (vertical machining centre) clamps every tool holder by its pull stud, also called a retention knob: the stud screws into the end of the holder's taper and the spindle's drawbar grips its head to pull the holder in. The stud has to match the spindle's taper, which is marked on the tool holders and given in the machine manual: this page covers BT40 (MAS 403), BT30, BT50, SK40 and CAT40. PTP CNC Toolings makes 80 pull studs for these tapers in Belagavi, with 15°, 45°, 60° and 90° heads, solid or coolant-through.

Other VMC spindle tapers
Each page lists every code for that taper, with its drawing and dimensions.
How do I choose the right pull stud?
Find the spindle taper. It is marked on the tool holder and given in the machine manual, for example BT40, BT30, BT50, SK40 or CAT40.
Check the head angle. The drawbar grips one head angle: 15°, 45°, 60° and 90°. The machine manual gives it; on the old stud, compare its head with the drawing on each code's page.
Match the thread. BT40 studs have M16 and 5/8" threads; BT30 (M12), BT50 (M24 and 1"), SK40 (M16 and 5/8") and CAT40 (M16 and 5/8").
Through-spindle coolant? If the VMC sends coolant through the spindle, choose a stud with a coolant hole (Ø J in the tables); otherwise a solid stud.
Send us the machine model. Share the machine make and model, or a photo of the old stud, on WhatsApp or by email and we confirm the ordering code before dispatch.
Questions about pull studs for VMC Machines
Which pull stud does a VMC machine use?
The one made for the spindle's taper and drawbar. Check the taper on the tool holders or in the machine manual, then the head angle the spindle maker specifies. A BT40 (MAS 403) pull stud has M16 and 5/8" threads and comes with 45°, 60°, 90° and 15° heads; PTP also makes BT30, BT50, SK40 and CAT40 pull studs.
What is the difference between 45°, 60° and 90° pull studs?
The angle is the gripping face under the stud's head that the drawbar's balls or collet pull on. It has to match the machine's gripper: the wrong angle clamps on an edge instead of a face. The tables above give the angle of every stud.
Do you make coolant-through pull studs for VMCs?
Yes. 47 of these 80 pull studs have a coolant hole for through-spindle coolant, some with a seal ring or O-ring. The coolant hole Ø is the J column in the tables.
Can you supply the pull stud for my VMC model?
Yes. Send the machine make and model, or a photo of the old stud with its length, on WhatsApp or by email, and we confirm the PTP ordering code that fits before we dispatch.
