Pull studs by taper
CAT40 Pull Studs (Retention Knobs) – 45°, 60° and 90° Heads, M16 and 5/8" Threads
CAT40 pull studs (retention knobs) screw into the back of a CAT40 tool holder (shank to ANSI/ASME B5.50, V-flange) so the machine's drawbar can pull it into the spindle. PTP makes 14 CAT40 pull studs: ANSI/ASME B5.50 with a 45° head and the PSCAT series with 45°, 60° or 90° heads, with M16 and 5/8" threads, solid or with a coolant hole. Every stud is CNC ground, MPT tested (Magnetic Particle Testing) and proof tested at 2.5× the clamping force.

How do I choose a CAT40 pull stud?
Taper. Check that the tool holder has a CAT40 shank to ANSI/ASME B5.50, V-flange. Its dimensions are on the CAT (ANSI/ASME B5.50) shank page.
Standard. Pick the pull stud type your machine's drawbar is built for: ANSI/ASME B5.50 or PSCAT series.
Head angle. ANSI/ASME B5.50 45° and PSCAT 45°, 60° or 90°. Check that your drawbar gripper takes the head angle you order.
Thread. The CAT40 shank table gives 5/8"-11 UNC for the holder's pull-stud thread. The M16 version is for holders made with that thread.
Coolant. For through-spindle coolant, order a stud with a coolant hole (J, Ø4.4–7.14 mm); seal ring and O-ring versions seal it.
Questions about CAT40 pull studs
What thread does a CAT40 pull stud have?
CAT40 pull studs from PTP come with M16 (4 codes) and 5/8" (10 codes) threads. The CAT40 shank table gives 5/8"-11 UNC for the holder thread.
Which head angles are there for CAT40 pull studs?
45° (ANSI/ASME B5.50 and PSCAT), 60° (PSCAT) and 90° (PSCAT). Order the head angle your drawbar gripper takes.
Are there coolant-through CAT40 pull studs?
Yes: 8 of the 14 CAT40 codes have a coolant hole, Ø4.4–7.14 mm (J); 1 has a seal ring and 1 has an O-ring. The table lists the coolant hole of every code.
